My daughter Rena is vibrant, tiny, loud, boundless, and proud.
In 2024 Rena was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called metochromatic Leukodystrophy. After an incredibly painful 9 month journey with the disease she passed away in our home.
A human life is complicated, painful, challenging, deep, and beautiful. While helping her through her end of life journey, I began to recognize the same thing in our landscapes.
Like Rena the natural landscape is vibrant, tiny, loud, boundless, and proud. There is no gain or honor in controlling what’s wild. This kind of approach lacks the humility and dignity that we so desperately need as people.
I started Rena’s View in hopes to create natural gardens that mimic the natural landscape while creating meaningful space for people . That means welcoming the bugs, feeding the birds, and letting the plants sort things out with eachother (with a little guidance when needed).
We have lost so much of the connection and meaning we used to have with our landscape. But, thoughtful changes and regenerative practices can lead us toward a more healthful relationship with our environment and each other.
I think that’s what Rena would have thought. And that’s what we hope to do in every project we work on.
